Gone In The Blink Of An Eye- Predetermined
By: Melissa Diegel and Karla Johnson
As noted in the Arizona’s Attorney General’s report from September 30th 2015 case workers and their supervisors are predetermining that they will be removing a child before they meet with the parents. A scathing example of this would be in the Diegel case where Dr. Lisa Kirsch from Phoenix Children’s Hospital states “I would recommend involving Child Protective Services at this point in time so that an investigation can be initiated…I will attempt to speak with the patient’s mother and examine the child tomorrow as this was not possible today.”
This gross misconduct amongst the community which is expected to “do no harm” is cause for alarm since they now have taken over 18,265 Arizona children into the system and have a backlog of 15,000 cases. They are also removing over 35 children a day and are adopting out 43 children a week in Maricopa County alone. What will it take for the cases to be reopened up and looked at because this report is more than alarming.
Unfortunately in a recent study they concluded it is more traumatic to remove a child from a parent then it is for a soldier to go through war. So unless their is imminent danger the state is causing more harm than good by removing a child from their parent, (if the child is being wrongfully removed.)
Why are states not helping helping families stay together?
