Judgment day is nigh.

On Tuesday the attorneys for Covington Catholic High School student Nick Sandmann filed a bombshell $250 million lawsuit against The Washington Post for smearing their client.

The suit specifically accuses the Post of engaging “in a modern-day form of McCarthyism” wherein it “attacked, vilified, and threatened” Sandmann, a 16-year-old teenager, for being a “white, Catholic student wearing a red ‘Make America Great Again’ souvenir cap” who had the apparent gall to smile innocently as a Native American man rudely banged a drum in his face.

The suit references what occurred at the Lincoln Memorial following the March for Life on Jan. 18. As Sandmann and his Covington peers stood outside the memorial just relaxing, a group of black supremacists affiliated with the Black Hebrew Israelites hate group accosted them with racist insults.

A Native American man named Nathan Phillips then confronted the kids with a loud drum — while they were just trying to mind their business and rally for their school — to allegedly try and reduce the growing tension. It’s unclear why he didn’t confront the hate group instead.

This footage went mega-viral and was used by everyone in the media, particularly The Washington Post, to smear Sandmann and his peers as insensitive, racist teenage boys, and falsely accuse them of instigating the events that transpired that afternoon.

“In targeting and bullying Nicholas by falsely accusing him of instigating the January 18 incident, the Post conveyed that Nicholas engaged in acts of racism by ‘swarming’ Phillips, ‘blocking’ his exit away from the students, and otherwise engaging in racist misconduct,” the suit notes.

The suit further accuses the Post of advancing this false narrative to score points against President Donald Trump. As far the paper’s demonstrably far-left “journalists” were concerned, Sandmann was “an acceptable casualty in their war against the President.”

“The Post ignored basic journalist standards because it wanted to advance its well-known and easily documented, biased agenda against President Donald J. Trump (‘the President’) by impugning individuals perceived to be supporters of the President,” the suit reads.

The Post and its peer-allies likewise rushed to prop Phillips up as a heroic figure standing up to white supremacy. It was later learned — thanks entirely to conservative media — that the Native American man is a far-left activist with a history of lying about everything, including serving in Vietnam (that never happened) and being victimized by racist college students in 2015 (that too never happened).

It was also learned that he’s a convicted criminal.

“In 1974, Phillips pleaded guilty to assault charges and was fined $200. In later years, he faced numerous other charges and arrest. He was also sentenced to one year of probation stemming from charges of alcohol possession by a minor,” Fox News reported in late January.

None of this information was noted by the Post or its peers.

“[T]he Post ignored the truth,” the suit notes, adding that the pending litigation against the national news media outlet “is only the beginning.”

“Today, Lin Wood and Todd McMurtry filed their first lawsuit on behalf of Nicholas Sandmann against The Washington Post,” Hemmer DeFrank Wessels, the firm representing Sandmann, wrote in a statement. The suit seeks $250 million in both compensatory and punitive damages. Lin and Todd will continue to bring wrongdoers before the court to seek damages in compensation for the harm so many have done to the Sandmann family. This is only the beginning.”

Earlier this month Sandmann’s attorneys reportedly submitted “letters for potential lawsuits to over 50 entities ranging from Democratic politicians to celebrities to media figures,” warning them to retract their false reports and apologize or face lawsuits like the one against the Post.

“We want to change the conversation. We don’t want this to happen again. We want to teach people a lesson,” attorney Todd McMurtry remarked at the time, adding that the media’s false reports “permanently stained (Nick’s) reputation.”

“For the mob to just go tear apart a 16-year-old boy is inexcusable. He’ll never be able to get away from this.”

True.

At the time he and fellow attorney Lin Wood also released a video titled  “Nick Sandmann: The Truth in 15 Minutes” that explained what really happened on Jan 18.

Because of how poorly the Post and its peers acted, many on social media are hopeful Sandmann wins his suit. In their estimate, it’s about time the media be held to account for the lies they tell:
