By TLB Staff Writer and TLBTV Show Host: Lorana Hoopes

Welcome to Lorana Writes the World. On this episode I offer you a great discussion with an outstanding multifaceted individual skilled as an author, an artist, a costumer, and even to a certain degree … an entertainer.

Connie Colon has such a great imagination. When she first started writing, she was hoping for her ideas to be television shows, but then she found out that most places want them as books first, so her Principal Kidd series came to life. She has taken screen writing classes though, which she says helped her writing. One of her best tips is to envision how it would look on television and then describe it to match. She’s still deciding whether to pitch her shows again.

Though Connie has been an artist for quite some time, she hadn’t planned on doing her own illustrations, but somehow she did. She doesn’t stop there though; she has now become quite the entertainer and has costumes that she either wears or lets principals wear when she does readings at school. She has hats for the kids and more.

Below are some photos from my Connie’s book launch party (where the kids dressed up as characters ).

Connie says: “I had blue glasses and neckties for little Principal Kidds to wear, purple braids for April Mae wannabes, pretzel rods (magic wands) and top hats for budding magicians to look like Tucker — and the chicken masks and chicken suits. Also included is some of the food — with the smiley face chocolate ‘poop’ candy!”

With a full series in her head, if you have little ones, the Principal Kidd series by Connie Colon is one you won’t want to miss.
