Lorana Writes the World with Guest Author, Sharon Hughson

Welcome to another information packed episode of Lorana Writes the World. Today’s guest is Sharon Hughson, a fellow Christian writer.

Sharon has written in several genres both in fiction and non-fiction. While she doesn’t write a lot of YA, she does read what her kids are reading and that led her to write a YA retelling of a story in the Bible about a boy who was possessed by a demon.

Her favorite genre to write is Fantasy, but her first series has had a long journey. Sharon talks about how important it is to get others’ opinions and how they can help shape your book. She made lots of changes after speaking with an expert. Even after all of that, she has had the hardest time getting her book picked up. So, she put it aside for a while and picked up something else.

Reflections From a Pondering Heart emerged during this break and is her retelling of the story of Mary, the mother of Jesus. The coolest part of this story is that it was inspired by a Facebook quiz. Sharon donates all of the money from this book back into ministry because she really feels that God wanted this book written. While she enjoyed writing the book, she also wanted to make sure she kept it Biblically accurate, so she had several pastors and pastors’ wives read it first.

Sharon also writes Bible Studies and Devotionals where she tries to always have a life application, which she finds is often missing, and she is working on a memoir to help people deal with grief, though she is a little scared that it will lead to speaking appearances. However, she has also given that over to God.
