In the medical field, pain is an inflammatory response to injury and is identified as acute or chronic. In simple terms, acute refers to “it’s happening now” and chronic refers to “continual or long term.” This is basically used to triage a patient.

One question here, besides the obvious, is “What causes pain?” Acute pain can happen from bumping an elbow to scrapping a knee to breaking a bone. On the other hand, chronic pain can be a response to fibromyalgia to arthritis to an unhealed injury.

A couple of other questions are “Why is the pain chronic?” and “How do I alleviate it?” Chronic pain has many causes and can vary from person to person. There are a number of triggers to chronic pain such as food, prescriptions, repetitive injury to an unhealed area of the body, exposure to chemicals found in food (e.g. glyphosate), and even over the supplements.

Since, there are so many causes, we need to look at all areas of our life to address the best way to combat it. You may already be familiar with the many tips and tricks out there that can stop pain… but they seem to do so only on a temporary basis. Some of these are: ice packs, applying heat, over the counter or prescription medications, among others.

However, to permanently stop pain, we may have to look at eliminating a specific food or changing the way we physically handle a repetitive task or exercise.

On this episode, we talk about how patients who experience chronic pain can not only address, but begin to reverse the pain. You may already be familiar with the many tips and tricks out there that can stop pain… but they seem to do so only on a temporary basis. Some of these are: ice packs, applying heat, over the counter or prescription medications, among others.

Research by guest Dr. Daniel Twogood, who is a chiropractor in Apple Valley, California and having graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1973 with a degree in Physical Education, has indicated there are long terms solutions to beating chronic pain. Dr. Twogood graduated Magna Cum Laude from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Los Angeles in 1983 and went on to practice at the International Sports Medicine Institute in West Los Angeles, where he treated many of the athletes in the 1984 Olympics.

In 1985, he opened his own practice in Apple Valley, California, where he discovered the diet/pain connection. This discovery was significant and prompted him to write his first book, No Milk, in 1991. Since then, he has learned more about the physiology of pain and has penned an additional three books – How to Rid Your Body of Pain, MSG is Everywhere, and the newest book Chronic Pain Gone 90 Days.
