Rebecca Sounds Reveille: Wake Up To – Required Healthcare, What You Need to Know with Guest Jordan P. Cooper

Health care is a topic we speak of most commonly in terms of traditional medical therapies – what works and what doesn’t. We talk about alternative therapies often as well, looking to treat and overcome what traditional medicine cannot provide. Alternative medicine is an area that many people across the globe are looking to now. Regardless of either method to address our health care issues, traditional medical care is predominant and required. So, let’s focus on that.
The area we don’t speak much about is the current climate of “required health care”, also known as, Obamacare, which was passed in March 2010. Many people were not happy about the requirements of this law and now we are facing its repeal. The challenge here, is that while the topic is being discussed, many don’t really understand what the law is, how it came about, or what happens if it is repealed. Therefore, we need to start with the basics.
On this episode guest Jordan P. Cooper, who has a master’s degree in health policy from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Vassar College tries to stay non-partisan to educate the audience on the things we need to know about health care.
Cooper starts with defining how health care in America came about beginning with Medicaid and Medicare (which accounts for the largest Federal budget to exceed the Department of Defense) along with Social Security Act. Establishing this understanding is crucial for where we stand in health care today. He discusses both sides of arguments to current and proposed repeal of Obamacare to what potentially is being called Trumpcare; however, he points out that no current action has been taken on this proposal
He is also Host of Public Interest Podcast and President of Revealing Our Humanity Communications, who has long valued public service. He has a goal of educating our country’s citizens so they can make informed choices about what is important to them. His non-partisan approach allows the audience to fully understand the health care situation we face today. It is quite refreshing not to have to search out information from different parties and sift through propaganda to obtain the basic information we need to know and understand about what is happening in health care. This is important as it affects all of us directly and indirectly.
Cooper has been involved with the implementation of the Affordable Care Act across the public and private sectors in hospitals, health insurance organizations, advocacy groups, the state legislature, and physician groups. He is highly knowledgeable about the current state of health care, as well, as what is to come.
Cooper ran as a Democratic Candidate for Delegate in the 2014 election cycle. He served as the President of the Luxmanor Citizens Association (2013-2014) and as the Chair of the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission Customer Advisory Board. He currently serves on the Western Montgomery County Citizens Advisory Board, the White Flint Downtown Advisory Committee, and the Rockville Selective Service Board. He is an Area Coordinator in District 16 for the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee and is a member of the District 16 Democratic Board.
