Bezos: WaPo to promote ‘personal liberties, ‘free markets’ in opinion page

Bezos said that freedom is ethical, practical and encourages creativity.

Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos announced Wednesday that he is going to change the opinion section of the newspaper to promote personal liberties and free markets.

“We are going to be writing every day in support and defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets,” Bezos wrote on the social media platform, X. “We’ll cover other topics too of course, but viewpoints opposing those pillars will be left to be published by others.”

He went on to say that freedom is ethical, practical and encourages creativity.

“I am of America and for America, and proud to be so,” Bezos wrote. “Our country did not get here by being typical. And a big part of America’s success has been freedom in the economic realm and everywhere else.”

This demonstrates another shift that Bezos is making in an attempt to make newspaper’s largely liberal-leaning opinion pages more neutral.

In October of last year, the newspaper decided not to endorse a candidate in the 2024 presidential race, after having done so for decades.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
