CBS Backtracks on Audio Tape of Donald Trump Discussing ‘Classified’ Documents

[It should be noted that no mention of the story of the CBS/Trump Audio Tape narrative was published by (TLB) earlier in the week.  We had too many questions about it and found too few answers to justifiy publication.  (TLB) ed.]

On Monday night, a ‘bombshell’ revelation about the Trump classified documents case was dropped into the midst of a news cycle that had turned decisively on Joe Biden.

CNN released audio that appeared to reveal Trump discussing classified documents regarding Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley’s military plans about Iran.

“He said that I wanted to attack Iran, isn’t it amazing?” Trump says on the recording, referring to General Milley.

“I have a big pile of papers; this thing just came up. Look. This was him. They presented me this — this is off-the-record, but they presented me this. This was him. This was the Defense Department and him.”

But on Wednesday, CBS’ Catherine Herridge provided more context to the audio that potentially pulls the rug out from prosecutors seeking to exploit it at the trial.

“Multiple sources previously told CBS News defense attorneys were not certain the memo in question was ever recovered and returned to the government. Former Senior DOJ official, ‘..in a way it might be analogous to try to prove a murder case without a body’,” Herridge reported.

The CBS investigative journalist was referring to a report earlier in the day that the Iran memo was not among the 31 records underlying charges in Trump federal indictment.

“The Defense Department memo on Iran — at the heart of the now-public audio recording that captured a July 2021 meeting with former President Donald Trump — is not part of the 31 counts of willful retention of national defense information charged in special counsel Jack Smith’s indictment of the former president, a source familiar with the matter confirmed to CBS News,” the network earlier reported.

“Trump has consistently said he declassified all the records he took from the White House,” Herridge added.

“CBS News has learned that Trump has not been charged for keeping the document he’s talking about on that tape. Special Counsel Jack Smith’s office declined to answer our questions about the Iran memo or the audio tape,” Herridge continued.

Conservative commentator and TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk reported that a witness to the Bedminster meeting testified he did not recall Trump showing the documents.

“So not only is the alleged Iran doc from the selectively leaked Trump tape not part of Jack Smith’s case against Trump, but now we learn that one of the witnesses at the Bedminster meeting testified they had NO memory of Trump displaying documents to interviewers!” Kirk said. “This is nothing more than election interference and character assassination against Trump by a weaponized DOJ.”

Earlier this week, the anti-Trump media was doing backflips over the audio, framing it in such hyperbolic strains as the Trump audio is “even more damning” than the indictment.

But if the Department of Justice can’t produce the document, then the selectively leaked audio would amount to nothing more than election interference and an illegally leaked smear during his criminal trial.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)

6 Comments on CBS Backtracks on Audio Tape of Donald Trump Discussing ‘Classified’ Documents

  1. It should be obvious now, Dems are once again trying to frame Trump without having actual evidence. Russia Russia Russia, kids in cages, stormy, tax returns, quid pro quo impeachment, insurrection impeachment, January 6 show trial . . .

He will be acquitted of whatever charges aren’t dismissed in rosy red Florida!

  2. CBS is probably worry they will be sued for defamation of character as the other Trump accuser making unsubstantiated accusations. No evidence they were looking at classified documents and not a the newspaper story that came out about the plan to attack Iran.

  3. The pattern holds true. First, make an outrageous allegation against Trump. Several days later, the allegation falls apart. Overtime these allegations are remembered by never Trumpers as a long list of misdeeds, not mis-information.
