Ex-Never Trumper Erick Erickson explains how he came to support Trump, what elites fear

What’s the state of Never Trumpers?

By Just the News staff

Conservative commentator and former Never Trumper Erick Erickson says the Never Trumpers are in a dilemma: Vote for a president they loath or lean further to the left.

“We know what we’re going to get with Joe Biden. He’s the first Democratic candidate in my lifetime that has, and I’m only 44, to pivot to the left instead of the right in the general election because he has to get progressive voters on board,” Erickson told The Pod’s Honest Truth’s David Brody.

Erickson, who used to be a prominent critic of Donald Trump, said Never Trumpers, who tend to be the Republican elite establishment disaffected by the president, will have to be able to swallow a more progressive running mate and more progressive policies–things that typically turn off Independent voters.

The movement is led by groups such as The Lincoln Project that was created in late 2019 as a way to both hold Trump-supporting Republicans accountable and oppose the president.  The group has put out a series of attack ads against Trump, the latest showing the American flag and body bags to represent Trump’s handling of the coronavirus.

Also, media organizations like the New York Times and MSNBC have several Trump-skeptical opinion columnists and commentators who help fuel anger toward Trump.

Erickson said Never Trumpers have contributed to the poisoning of the way Americans think about politics.

“The media have internalized as a moral Crusade, and they’ve got to get rid of Donald Trump, which is why they can blast him for the death toll and totally ignore Andrew Cuomo is handling the situation in New York,” he said.  “It’s all about getting rid of Donald Trump.”

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
