LEARN 2 UNLEARN (E76): Ode to Acadia (My ‘Deportation’ Experience)
Not sure if anyone knows or is familiar with ‘being in the enemy’s shoes’, so to speak, to really be able to ‘feel’ (and then get the hell out of there) what it is like to be in his shoes. That brings ‘know your enemy’ just that one step further, and it is terrifying.

Welcome to another Episode of LEARN 2 UNLEARN!
When I was researching this Acadian Deportation of 1755, I was at school, French-Acadian Community College, I lived in the French-Acadian city of Caraquet, in NB., and at that time, I was finishing my high school diploma ~ not a GED. The whole nine yards. From 7th grade math to 12th grade physics class, which I was credited for because of living experience.
But I had SWORE to myself, upon visiting Francois Landry‘s grave just out of town, and also doing an expose on his tomb site and the Deportation for Social studies class, I SWORE to myself that I would take this DAMNED document, and because I had just gotten a printer, and I was ecstatic, I was going to print out this horrid ‘thing’, PRAY ON IT a while, then go to Grand Pre, Nova Scotia, a five hour ride one way, and read this proclamation out loud ON THE STEPS OF THAT SAME CHURCH …
… in English, of course, exactly as it had been done, but get this… ON THE SAME DAY OF THE YEAR, SEPTEMBER 5th, (1755) and I did read it AT THREE O’CLOCK IN THE AFTER-NOON … as they did … and then it came…
First off, was my initial shock at the complacency, the apathy of those who were there already, as it is a beautiful tourist site, with signs, and explanations, guided tours, allowing you to walk inside this church, and on the grounds…
There were people around, not too many, and when I announced that I was going to read it in 5 minutes, (because it was 2:55 PM), getting the chills myself, goosebumps up and down my entire body, all I noticed was all of them ‘scat-tering’ like cockroaches…
So, I thought, fine, I will read it to myself, and in Honor of those displaced by greed and power. Which is what I did.
Half-way through, I started to feel ‘the weight‘ of what I was reading… then, ‘where‘ I was reading this…
Then, the ‘shock of the people’ standing there listening, and the horror I felt as I was the one reading this proclamation… It was as if it came … from me … and I ~ even if just for an instant ~ carried the weight of the situation on my trembling shoulders, and my weak skeleton.
And then, still, … suddenly, my knees start to shake… the paper parchment I had so meticu-lously prepared and was so proud of … was slowly becoming unreadable… But I finished it.
And upon reading that last sentence of that proclamation, one knee just simply went down, then both. And I hung my head, …
Absolutely alone… in silent Prayer and Remembrance, as my left hand, holding the document, became a fist, and it slammed down on the steps of that church, with the document, mingled with the sweat ~ my sweat from reading it, and the heat from that beautiful sunny afternoon…
But what a horrible taste in my mouth… and it is such a small place that, as you stand facing the church, the sea, where they were set off to, was just there, on the left, not far off… The Midas Basin.
And from that day on, I realized what it means to ‘walk the talk’… and not just speak it comfortably from your computer …
But really LIVING it to the best of my ability.
Polar opposites.
And that five hour drive back home, it went so fast, I don’t even remember half of it, being in a special trans, most of the way home, a better ‘high’ than most any other drug I had ever taken before …
And as I end this Episode of LEARN 2 UNLEARN, and yes, with a bad taste in my mouth, I am of the realization now that this ‘bad taste’ comes from what I am being force-fed with… and not what I ingest freely… and daily…
These are poisons of the past that we must entertain, in order to comprehend the magnitude of what is going on right now, this minute…
