Nancy Pelosi is threatening Supreme Court Justices with an escalating public pressure campaign to influence the court after a draft majority opinion leaked indicating it would overturn landmark abortion decisions Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey.
On Friday, the Speaker of the House appeared on MSNBC with host Nicolle Wallace. Pelosi hinted to radical protesters that they should mobilize ‘public sentiment’ to influence the court.
“We have to have the clarity in what this draft decision means, so that what the final decision doesn’t go that far,” Pelosi said.
“The chief justice has said, this is, this is authentic, but it is not final,” she went on. “I don’t know if he is word authentic. It’s real, but not final.”
“So again, Lincoln said public sentiment is everything with it,” she continued. “You can accomplish almost anything — without it, nothing — and women just have to weigh in.”
“I don’t think there’s a good outcome here, but I think there’s a better outcome than what we have seen in the first draft, which is radical,” she added.
Speaker Pelosi’s words come in the aftermath of heated protests at the Supreme Court building, which spurred the court’s officers to erected barricades and high fencing to maintain the court’s security.

It is illegal to pressure the court into rendering a specific decision. Title 18, Section 1507 of the United States Code states that ‘picketing or parading’ to intimidate the court is a federal crime.
Whoever, with the intent of interfering with, obstructing, or impeding the administration of justice, or with the intent of influencing any judge, juror, witness, or court officer, in the discharge of his duty, pickets or parades in or near a building housing a court of the United States, or in or near a building or residence occupied or used by such judge, juror, witness, or court officer, or with such intent uses any sound-truck or similar device or resorts to any other demonstration in or near any such building or residence, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.
Nothing in this section shall interfere with or prevent the exercise by any court of the United States of its power to punish for contempt.
It is critical to note that far-left media outlets have been publishing the private addresses of justices’ homes in order to encourage protesters to protest there. Furthermore, the Democratic Party will not condemn the Supreme Court opinion leaker, despite the unprecedented act compromising the integrity of the nation’s highest court.
On Thursday, departing White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki was asked by Fox News’ Peter Doocy about the radical left’s intimidation tactics.
Doocy: “These activists posted a map with the home addresses of the Supreme Court justices. Is that the sort of thing this President wants?”
Psaki: “I think the President’s view is that there is a lot of passion.”

“I think the President’s view is that there is a lot of passion,” Psaki said. Her glib response is essentially a tacit endorsement.
However, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas this week delivered a rare public message to those who would compromise America’s institutions.
Thomas, speaking at the 11th Circuit judicial conference in Atlanta this week, (See article below) directed his message towards those who seek to ‘bully’ the court — a reference to those who leaked a draft opinion that a SCOTUS majority aims to overturn landmark abortion decisions.
“We can’t be an institution that can be bullied into giving you just the outcomes you want. The events from earlier this week are a symptom of that,” Thomas said.
Earlier this week, far-left groups published the private addresses of Supreme Court Justices’ homes in order to encourage protesters to protest there. Attempting to pressure a U.S. court into rendering a specific decision is illegal.
“We are becoming addicted to wanting particular outcomes, not living with the outcomes we don’t like,” he also remarked, while expressing there is a “different attitude of the young,” who may not show governmental institutions the same respect as previous generations.
“It bodes ill for a free society,” he added.
It’s not just young people who lack respect for the nation’s institutions. The Speaker of the House and the White House itself have shown reckless disregard and even contempt for institutions that ensure justice and safeguard the rule of the law. The Supreme Court is foremost among them.

Courts Can’t Be “Bullied” Into Delivering Outcomes People Demand

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas on Friday defended judicial independence, arguing that government institutions mustn’t allow themselves to be strong-armed into delivering outcomes that people demand, according to news outlets.
Thomas made the remarks at a May 6 judicial conference in Atlanta, where he was asked by a moderator to discuss the biggest threats to judicial independence, according to Law360.
In his response, Thomas decried what he described as an erosion of respect for the high court and made an apparent reference to protests that erupted after the leak of a draft Supreme Court opinion suggesting the court is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade, with major implications for access to abortion.
He said that at as a society, “we are becoming addicted to wanting particular outcomes, not living with the outcomes we don’t like,” according to Reuters.
“We can’t be an institution that can be bullied into giving you just the outcomes you want. The events from earlier this week are a symptom of that,” he added.
A flurry of protests and counter-protests broke out outside the Supreme Court after Politico obtained and published the draft opinion that would uphold a Mississippi law banning abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy and overturn the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion nationwide.
The protests have been loud but mostly peaceful, though there have been reports that pro-abortion activists attacked pro-life pastors.
In a bid to prevent violence, police have now surrounded the Supreme Court with a set of 9-foot high metal barricades, with an officer telling an Epoch Times reporter that the move was “just in case.”
Speaking at the 11th Circuit Judicial Conference, a gathering of lawyers and judges, Thomas referred several times to the “unfortunate events” of the past week, bemoaning declining respect for institutions and the rule of law.
“It bodes ill for a free society,” he said, according to The Washington Post.
It can’t be that institutions “give you only the outcome you want, or can be bullied” into submission.
Thomas also expressed concern about a “different attitude of the young” towards respect for institutions and the law, suggesting this is on the decline relative to past generations, as cited by the outlet.
The Supreme Court has confirmed the authenticity of the draft opinion but called it preliminary.
A ruling in the case is expected in June.
