Now We Know Why Biden Took ‘Classified’ Documents when V.P.

CNN Reports What Is In Them

It has now become clear why Joe Biden took ‘classified’ documents from his time as vice president and stashed them at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement in Washington.

The ‘classified’ documents contain information on highly sensitive subjects, including his ties to Ukraine, Iran, and the United Kingdom, according to a new report from CNN.

“Among the classified documents from Joe Biden’s time as vice president discovered in a private office last fall are US intelligence memos and briefing materials that covered topics including Ukraine, Iran and the United Kingdom,” a source told CNN.

“A total of 10 documents with classification markings were found last year in Biden’s private academic office and they were dated between 2013 and 2016,” the report added.

In a situation similar to the “classified” marked documents found at former President Donald Trump’s residence at Mar-a-Lago, the boxes found at the Penn Biden Center with these classified records also contained personal Biden family documents.

Donald Trump, however, was President of the United States with ultimate declassification authority over the documents, while Joe Biden took the documents when he was vice president.

While CNN reports that Joe Biden’s stash of ‘classified’ documents did not contain “nuclear secrets,” there is no evidence that Donald Trump possessed such documents himself.

The FBI’s raid at the behest of the National Archives and Records Administration has not yielded the “nuclear secrets” that the Washington Post reported in August were in Trump’s possession. The Post has subsequently reported that a “review by agents and prosecutors found no discernible business interest in the Mar-a-Lago documents, people familiar with the matter said.”

As reported by CBS News, the documents have prompted a “review” from a U.S. attorney’s office.

“Attorney General Merrick Garland has assigned the U.S. attorney in Chicago to review classified documents found at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement in Washington,” CBS News earlier reported, based on confidential sources. “The roughly 10 documents are from President Biden’s vice-presidential office at the center, the sources said. CBS News has learned the FBI is also involved in the U.S. attorney’s inquiry.”

“The classified material was identified by personal attorneys for Mr. Biden on Nov. 2, just before the midterm elections, Richard Sauber, special counsel to the president confirmed,” the report added.

The documents were discovered when Biden’s personal attorneys “were packing files housed in a locked closet to prepare to vacate office space at the Penn Biden Center in Washington, D.C.,” Sauber said in a statement to CBS News. They were subsequently turned over to the National Archives.

The Ukraine documents, in particular, hold particular intrigue due to his son Hunter Biden’s relations with the Ukrainian gas company Burisma Holdings.

Burisma had paid his son over $80,000 a month to be a “consultant” for the firm, despite Hunter Biden having no relevant experience in the industry. Hunter’s salary would be cut two months after his father Joe Biden left the office of the vice president.

Joe Biden in 2016 had pressured the Ukrainian government to fire a prosecutor that was investigating Burisma’s leadership for corruption.

A series of documents from the Obama-Biden administration showed that representatives for Burisma Holdings sought a meeting with the State Department in February 2016 to discuss the corruption allegations.

Burisma’s representatives invoked the former vice president’s youngest son, Hunter, in order to try to get a meeting with the State Department. The FOIA documents obtained in a lawsuit by John Solomon did not indicate if the meeting ever took place.

On one of the last days of his term as vice president, Joe Biden traveled to Kyiv. FOIA documents hosted at the U.S. State Department show one possible explanation why.

Viktor Nebozhenko, a political scientist, was cited in an email from then Foreign Service Institute director Karen Robblee to former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch speculating on the timing of Biden’s visit and what it could possibly mean.

“Donald Trump said that he will carry out an audit of investments in security and democracy in Ukraine,” Nebozhenko said. “For 8 years the US Administration has turned a blind eye to our corruption and gave a lot of money through the IMF and various funds. And all this has disappeared somewhere. Trump, as the new director of the company under the name of the United States, wants to know where that money went.”

“Biden may become a subject of consideration in the US Congress on the effectiveness of aid to Ukraine, and then he will be asked where the money of the American taxpayers went,” he added.

Such questions have continued into the Biden presidency, as the United States has given more than$50 billion in aid to Ukraine, including military, humanitarian and financial aid.

The classified documents found at the Biden-affiliated center will only fuel more demands in Congress for an accounting of where exactly all of the Ukrainian aid has gone.

We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
