PELOSI: ‘Cannot accept’ second Trump term

BY KYLE OLSON

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says the Constitution must be protected, regardless of whether President Trump is constitutionally elected to a second term.

Pelosi apologized for getting political at the Cornell University Institute of Politics & Global Affairs, then argued the very future of the Republic hinges on defeating him.

“We have to make sure that the Constitution wins the next presidential election,” she said, suffering a brain freeze. “We can’t be worrying about how long is this going to take or that, it will take as long as it does.

“And we will press the case so that in the court of public opinion, people will know what is, uh, is right. But we cannot accept a second term for Donald Trump if we are going to be faithful to our democracy and to our constitution of the United States,” she warned.

“And that is just a fact,” she said to a smattering of applause.

“So we have to operate on many fronts. We have to operate in the Congress, in the courts, and in the court of public opinion, and we must win the next election,” Pelosi said.

Speaking to reporters during a political event in Medford, Massachusetts last week, Pelosi seemed to backpedal on earlier statements that Trump is not “worth it.”

“There are some who think we should have been impeaching him a month— a year and a half ago. Two years ago— two years ago,” she said with the laugh.

Admitting impeachment is a “divisive and dividing path that you can take,” she added, “I do think the path of investigation and getting more information and you never know that one thing can lead to another. Impeachment is never off the table.”

That’s a very different statement than she made just a few weeks ago.

MSN reported in March:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in an interview that she opposes moving to impeach President Trump even though she believes he is “unfit” for office — her first definitive statement on the subject and one that stands to alienate members of her own Democratic Party who are intent on ousting the president.

“I’m not for impeachment,” she said in a March 6 interview conducted for a future issue of The Washington Post Magazine.

“This is news,” she added. “I haven’t said this to any press person before. But since you asked, and I’ve been thinking about this, impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path because it divides the country. And he’s just not worth it.”

She saying now Democrats shouldn’t “start” there, but seems to now be open to the idea of ending up there.

poll from March showed public support was at an all-time low for impeachment.

Just over one-third of those polled supported the effort to oust Trump from office, and the survey found a 12-point drop in support among Democrats to 68 percent.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
