Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel on Friday officially stepped down from her post, allowing front-running GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump to revamp the group with his hand-picked leaders.
After McDaniel resigned at the group’s spring meeting in Houston, members elected North Carolina Republican Party leader Michael Whatley as chairman and Lara Trump, a daughter-in-law of the candidate, as co-chairperson.
“It is a little bit bittersweet to be with all of you here today as I step down as chair after seven years of working with you all,” McDaniel said.
