Secret source for trafficked kids: foster care

Addressing the problem of child sex trafficking is a matter of caring enough to pay attention to the underground world around us.
January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Awareness month, which gives the U.S. Institute Against Human Trafficking the opportunity to describe the horrific practice of forced prostitution of children in the United States.
Geoffrey Rogers of the U.S. Institute says more than 100,000 children are abused for sex trafficking every day and most are part of the foster care system.
“For the most part,” says Rogers, “60 to 70 percent of the estimates that we have of the kids that are trafficked in the United States are coming out of the foster care system.”
Girls are often groomed by an older man then forced to prostitute themselves while the boys are taken in by older men, provided with food and shelter, then molested and forced into the trade.
“What we recognize is that sex trafficking is really a supply answer to a demand problem,” he explains. “So it’s the demand that’s fueling these kids being trapped into this, and so we have an equal level — if not even more of a focus — on how do you fight the demand.”
What is the answer?
Rogers says we as a society must come to grips on what is causing the demand and then get a hold of that in order to curb the demand.

More about Foster Care from The Liberty Beacon:
The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
