Special Counsel Jack Smith’s Latest Move Suggests He is Close to Indicting Trump

Special Counsel Jack Smith appears to be drawing closer to an expected indictment of former President Donald J. Trump over contesting the results of the 2020 election.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp was approached by Jack Smith’s office regarding the ongoing investigation into former President Donald Trump and his allies’ attempts to legally contest the 2020 election results.

The Washington Post was the first to verify that Smith’s office contacted Kemp after Trump announced on TRUTH Social that he had received a letter from Smith, indicating that he was a subject of a grand jury investigation related to the events of January 6.

The actions of Smith suggest a potential intersection between his investigation and the inquiries led by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Since early 2021, Willis has been examining whether Trump and his allies violated any state laws during their efforts to challenge Trump’s slim election loss in Georgia to current President Biden.

Willis initiated her investigation soon after Trump, in January 2021, suggested to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger that he could assist him in “finding” the votes necessary to overcome his electoral defeat in the state.

The Georgia Supreme Court last week denied Trump’s request to suppress the special grand jury report, and Willis has hinted that any charges might be filed by September 1.

The Post reported earlier that last month, investigators from Smith’s office interviewed Raffensperger in Atlanta.

Meanwhile, despite Kemp’s earlier support for Trump, he ultimately certified Biden’s win in Georgia after the 2020 presidential election.

In the 2022 primary contest, Trump endorsed Kemp’s competitor, former Senator David Perdue (R-GA). Despite this, Kemp emerged victorious in both the nomination and the general election. Kemp was also questioned by investigators from Willis’s office last year as part of her inquiry, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.

CNN reported that Smith’s office has also recently reached out to former Arizona Governor Doug Ducey as part of the Department of Justice’s investigation into Trump.

This week, Donald Trump unloaded on Truth Social upon learning that Special Counsel Jack Smith intended to charge him over his alleged role in the January 6 riots.

“The Democrat prosecutors waited years to bring charges so that they could interfere with the 2024 presidential election. they are getting, however, big blowback!” he wrote.

Trump continued, “for the first time in the history of the USA, lawyers, and the legal system itself, are under siege…all a gift from crooked Joe Biden, Merrick Garland, and deranged prosecutor, Jack Smith!”

The Democratic Party contested presidential elections that took place in 2000, 2004, and 2016. Their constitutionally protected actions did not result in a criminal indictment, even though their false accusations fueled riots after Trump’s legitimate election in 2016.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
