It was just a matter of time before Muslims living in the United States would try to impose Sharia Law somewhere. A city in Texas said, “Not here.”
In March of this year, the city council of Irving, Texas voted to endorse a Texas law that forbids judges from using foreign laws in family court cases, if the law violates constitutional or state protections. The move came in response to a local mosque’s Muslim mediation panel comprised of arbitrators settling civil disputes using Sharia law.
Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne came under immediate fire by Muslim groups and the Leftist Mainstream Media, who accused her of Islamophobia and even painting her as a politician trying to score points. Nice try.
The mayor held firm and refused to back down, issuing this statement, as reported in The Washington Post:
“’Sharia Law Court was NOT approved or enacted by the City of Irving,’ she wrote, adding: ‘Our nation cannot be so overly sensitive in defending other cultures that we stop protecting our own. The American Constitution and our guaranteed rights reign supreme in our nation and may that ever be the case.’”
Members of the Council on Islamic-American Relations (CAIR) were present at the city vote to support the Texas bill, which passed by a 5-4 vote. CAIR attempted to intimidate the crowd by shouting that the bill was “anti-Islamic.”
This is a dangerously close vote on something that is at the core of what it means to be American; 5 to 4 in a very red state. This is what they call “creeping Sharia.”
CAIR is the group that demanded GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson withdraw from the race because he said he would oppose a Muslim becoming president if they embraced Sharia Law.
CAIR has also been tied to the terrorist group Hamas, and their tactics in Texas prove that they will resort to threats and intimidation, as reported by the Conservative Tribune:
“After calls, threats and toddler-like demands to apologize from the Muslims who attempted to form the Sharia tribunal along with representatives from the Council on Islamic-American Relations, a known front for the Muslim Brotherhood, the mayor never once backed down.
There were a multitude of illegal activities taking place behind the attempted formation of the Sharia court, including the fact that all four of the ‘voluntary’ Sharia lawyers were not licensed to practice law in Texas — that’s a third degree felony.”
Coincidentally, Irving is also the city where 14-year-old Ahmed Mohamed, aka “Clock Boy” was arrested for bringing a homemade clock-bomb to school. Authorities identified it as a bomb, because it looked like a bomb. Mohamed and his family has moved to Qatar since his ruse was discovered.
Kudos to Mayor Van Duyne for putting American values over those of Muslims. Too many politicians don’t have the spine to do it.
