Former President Donald Trump excoriated the Biden administration on Tuesday for not supporting the Cuban people in their struggle against the communist Castro regime.

“Joe Biden has betrayed the Cuban people and surrendered Cuba to Communist China,” Trump said in a statement. “By allowing China to sink their teeth into the island and establish military bases 90 miles off our shore, something unthinkable, Biden not only risks our own national security, but he abandons the dream of freedom for those many amazing Cuban Americans who under my administration, were going to get their wish.”

Trump’s comments came on the two-year anniversary of the July 11 protests in Cuba, some of the largest anti-communist demonstrations the island had seen in recent decades. The protests attracted little international attention or support, and the regime was able to effectively crush dissent in that instance.

The former president further lamented the fate of the many protesters whom he said had been abandoned by Biden administration.

“Today, we also ask God to strengthen and watch over all the political prisoners and protestors being cruelly held captive by this evil regime,” he added. “Three years ago, the Cuban nightmare was ready to end. The Biden administration has given it up – but I will get it back again. We pray for the day when all of Cuba will be free.”

Cuba came under communist control following Fidel Castro’s 1959 ouster of President Fulgencio Batista. The island has long since been a communist enclave near American territory and the influence of hostile powers on Havana has complicated American diplomacy.

In recent months, reports that Havana had agreed to permit China to build a spy facility on the island prompted security concerns for Washington.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
