Americans Would Be Horrified to Find Out the Many Ways the Election System is ‘Rigged’

By Kyle Becker

What does it mean to a voter when someone claims an election is “rigged”? Does it mean that illegal votes are being cast? Does it mean a systematic bias against a candidate, like when Senator Elizabeth Warren claimed the 2016 Democratic primary was “rigged” in favor of Hillary Clinton? (Warren would then have the temerity to scold Trump for invoking the phrase ahead of his ultimately victorious 2016 presidential bid.) Does claiming an election was ‘rigged’ mean something very specific, suggesting Americans should tread lightly when uttering the suddenly forbidden phrase?

Oxford defines ‘rig’ in one sense as “the particular way in which a sailboat’s masts, sails, and rigging are arranged.” But in reference to elections, it merely means “to arrange or influence something in a dishonest way in order to get the result that you want.”

Thus, it is not controversial to point out that the 2020 election was “rigged” in that numerous states ahead of the 2020 presidential election coordinated to implement unlawful state election rules that violate constitutional due process.

“We know that five states, some of the five key states that were critical in this election, changed their election law in an unconstitutional fashion,” Rep. Jim Jordan, a House Judiciary Member, correctly pointed out on January 6.

Beyond the unlawful state election changes, such as mass mailings of ‘no excuse’ absentee ballots, as well as the use of ‘Zuckerberg boxes,’ or absentee ballot drop boxes put predominately in heavy blue districts, there are several more lesser-known, and indeed, extraordinary ways the U.S. election system is rigged to benefit the Democratic Party.

The Federalist’s Joy Pullmann recently delved into the topic of election-rigging and unearthed some truly shocking revelations. Her article is based on the new Mollie Hemingway book called, “Rigged: How the Media, Big Tech, and the Democrats Seized Our Elections.” I highly recommend it and it has some cases that I skip over or only touch on. I also add a few more cases and add commentary of my own. Here are seven of the major takeaways from the book on how U.S. elections have been “rigged” for decades.

The DNC Controlled All Poll Watchers for 40 Years

“Shockingly, the 2020 contest was the first presidential election since Reagan’s first successful run in 1980 in which the Republican National Committee could play any role whatsoever in Election Day operations,” Hemingway writes.

“For nearly 40 years, the Democratic National Committee had a massive systemic advantage over its Republican counterpart: the Republican National Committee had been prohibited by law from helping out with poll watcher efforts or nearly any litigation related to how voting is being conducted.”

“Democrats had spent the last forty years perfecting their Election Day operations while everyone at the Republican National Committee walked on eggshells, knowing that if they so much as looked in the direction of a polling site, there could be another crackdown,” she added. “As a result, there was no muscle memory about how to watch polls or communicate with a presidential campaign.”

No wonder the 2020 election poll-watching was a complete mess and was highly contested by the Democratic Party, notoriously in blue cities such as Detroit and Philadelphia. Below is just one video example of opposition to Republican poll watchers in Philadelphia:

Such is the hostile attitude towards GOP poll watchers in blue cities throughout America.

Democrats Benefit from Lazy and Insecure Election Practices

“Also made clear throughout ‘Rigged’ is that lazier and sloppier elections strongly advantage Democrats,” Pullman writes in her review. “This means long election seasons, mail-in balloting, and loose ballot behavior such as mailing millions and opening dropboxes all tilt elections towards Democrats.”

“The vote-by-mail system was becoming a major part of the Democratic Party’s get-out-the-vote operation,” Hemingway writes. “Regardless of fraud and other concerns, the press saw the success of the mail-in ballot effort in Wisconsin for what it was: an effort to turn out more Democratic voters.”

Facebook Essentially Bought Biden the Election

“[Mark] Zuckerberg didn’t just help Democrats by censoring their political opponents,” Hemingway writes. “He directly funded liberal groups running partisan get-out-the-vote operations. In fact, he helped those groups infiltrate election offices in key swing states by doling out large grants to crucial districts. That funding was the means by which [Democrat] activists achieved their ‘revolution’ and changed the course of the 2020 election.”

This is a topic I have covered in some depth: Zuckerberg’s role in state elections was monumental. That a billionaire dumped hundreds of million in private funding into a presidential election would typically draw caterwauling and protest by the radical left. That the left was not only silent, but actually applauded the election interference, tells you all you needed to know about who stood to benefit.

“Many Americans now know that Facebook founder and billionaire Mark Zuckerberg interfered in the 2020 election, pouring $350 million into an obscure Chicago-based nonprofit that redistributed the funds to county elections officials nationwide. What they might not know is just how widespread those grants were,” the Capital Research Center said.

“Meet the Center for Technology and Civic Life (CTCL), a group that burst into prominence after Zuckerberg increased the tiny nonprofit’s revenues—just $1.4 million in 2018—by a bewildering 24,900 percent in the lead-up to the 2020 election. CTCL used its newfound fortune to funnel five-, six-, seven-, even eight-figure grants to the government officials responsible for administering the 2020 election—with devastating results for Republicans,” the report continued.

If the Republicans do not act to ban such interference into U.S. election by private actors, including secretive and unaccountable voting machine companies, it shows that they are content with the fix being in.

The United States Has Republican ‘No-Go’ Zones

“In 2017, Portland canceled its annual Rose Parade after violent threats from Antifa, which objected to the Multnomah County Republican Party’s being included as one of the many civic groups marching in the parade.,” Hemingway writes. “Forget Trump; it was unsafe for even an ordinary Republican to walk down the streets of Portland. And in canceling the parade, [Portland Mayor Ted] Wheeler effectively conceded that Antifa ruled the streets.”

While Attorney General Merrick Garland has claimed that election audits that canvas voters is tantamount to “voter intimidation,” as well as the recording of Zuckerberg boxes for signs of election fraud, entire neighborhoods in blue cities are dangerous for Republicans to vote in. The unsubtle signaling that ‘Republicans aren’t welcome’ could be seen in places such as Philadelphia, where several poll workers wore ‘Biden 2020’ masks. Meanwhile, poll workers wearing pro-Trump gear were justifiably removed from polling sites, since it’s a violation of election laws. If you are a Democrat, obviously, being held accountable to the law is merely optional.

The Use of Mass Mail-In Ballots in Elections is an Invitation for Fraud

“Up to a quarter of a million votes were cast in Wisconsin’s presidential election without any identification check at all,” Mollie Hemingway writes. Yet the House Democrats want to normalize such lax voter verification across the nation, particularly with a stalled bill called the “For the People Act of 2021.”

The Heritage Foundation catalogued a number of the issues with mass mail-in ballots prior to the 2020 election debacle.

“Mail-in ballots are the ballots most vulnerable to being altered, stolen, or forged,” Han Von Spakovsky writes.” Just look at the current investigation going on in Paterson, New Jersey, over a recent municipal election conducted entirely by mail.”

“Four Paterson residents have already been charged with criminal election fraud, including a councilman and councilman-elect,” he continues. “Evidence is surfacing of everything from voters reporting that they never received their absentee ballots (even though they are recorded as having voted) to accusations that one of the campaigns may have submitted fraudulent ballots.”

“Mail-in ballots also have a higher rejection rate than votes cast in person,” he notes. “In the Paterson case, election officials apparently rejected 1 in 5 ballots for everything from signatures on the ballots not matching the signatures of voters on file, to ballots not complying with the technical rules that apply to absentee ballots.”

“In addition, there have been problems with the Postal Service not postmarking ballots, making it impossible for election officials to determine whether the ballots were mailed in time to be counted,” he adds. “The U.S. Election Assistance Commission says that in the last four federal elections, 2.7 million mail-in ballots were misdelivered and 1.3 million were rejected by election officials.”

These would prove to be hotly contentious issues in the 2020 election, where Pennsylvania’s mail-in ballots were suspiciously processed, and ballot rejection rates plummeted in key swing states, even as the volume increased off-the-charts.

The Democrats Oppose Standardized Voter Verification Practices

The act’s proposals reveal the Democrats are willing to eliminate any election safeguards possible to ensure the ability to ‘rig’ elections at will. The federal legislation would institute measures the Democrats claim would “expand Americans’ access to the ballot box, reduce the influence of big money in politics, strengthen ethics rules for public servants, and implement other anti-corruption measures for the purpose of fortifying our democracy, and for other purposes.”

It should be noted that “fortifying” the election is the same verbiage used by radical groups, labor unions, and giant corporations that schemed in the shadows to interfere in the 2020 election and beyond to damage Trump.

One of the major provisions of the act is it would normalize counting ballots after Election Day. “The bill prohibits any laws from being constructed that would forbid states from counting ballots received over 10 days after an election,” an observer noted. This bill would cede that authority to set an Election Day and open the federal elections up for a week-and-a-half, if states so chose. This is also a tacit admission that late-arriving ballots that were accepted in Pennsylvania due to the ruling of the state Supreme Court were highly constitutionally questionable.

The Congress argues that it has the constitutional authority to enact changes to election law by reasoning that it is contains “structural racism” that must be remedied by the Congress.

“Congress finds that it has the authority pursuant to section 5 of the Fourteenth Amendment to protect the right to vote,” the bill states. “Congress also finds that States and localities have eroded access to the right to vote through restrictions on the right to vote including excessively onerous voter identification requirements, burdensome voter registration procedures, voter purges, limited and unequal access to voting by mail, polling place closures, unequal distribution of election resources, and other impediments.”

“Congress also finds that it has authority to legislate to eliminate racial discrimination in voting and the democratic process pursuant to both section 5 of the Fourteenth Amendment, which grants equal protection of the laws, and section 2 of the Fifteenth Amendment, which explicitly bars denial or abridgment of the right to vote on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude,” the bill goes on.

“Congress finds that racial discrimination in access to voting and the political process persists,” the bill claims. “Voting restrictions, redistricting, and other electoral practices and processes continue to disproportionately impact communities of color in the United States and do so as a result of both intentional racial discrimination, structural racism, and the ongoing structural socioeconomic effects of historical racial discrimination.”

The Heritage Foundation rebuts the claims of advantages to changes to the Democrats’ recurring proposals to American elections law. The bill would “seize the authority of states to regulate voter registration and the voting process by forcing states to implement early voting, automatic voter registration, same-day registration, online voter registration, and no-fault absentee balloting,” Heritage argues about the highly similar 2019 version.

Voting Machines are a Secretive, Unaccountable and Undemocratic Part of America’s Elections

Prior to the 2020 election, Democrats railed about voting machines being susceptible to corruption or fraud. Among the Democrats that cast doubt on the integrity of voting machines: Rep. Adam Schiff, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, Rep. Val Demings, Rep. Zoe Lofgren, Rep. Jennifer Wexton, Rep. Ted Lieu, Sen. Ron Wyden, Sen. Mark Warner, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, and even then-Sen. Kamala Harris.

“I actually held a demonstration for my colleagues here at the capitol, where we brought in folks who, before our eyes, hacked election machines,” Kamala Harris once said. “Those that are being used in many states.”

Ironically, the House Democrats’ own 2021 election integrity bill exceeded problems with voting machines. The Brennan Center points out the House bill’s Subtitle F “Promoting Accuracy, Integrity, and Security Through Voter-Verified Permanent Paper Ballot”:

[It would] require state and local officials to:

    • conduct federal elections using “voter-verified paper ballots”— i.e. ballots that can be marked either by hand or a ballot marking device and inspected by the voter before the ballot is cast;
    • give voters the opportunity to correct any errors on their paper ballot before it is cast;
    • give voters the option to mark their ballots by hand;
    • preserve paper ballots for recounts or audits;
    • count ballots by hand for recounts and audits; and
    • provide individuals with disabilities the opportunity to vote privately and independently using paper ballots;

The Brennan Center also provided numerous credible research articles on the issue of voting machine security. This is one of the few sensible reforms the House Democrats have proposed among the dozens of poison pills in its federal election takeover legislation.

Election Fraud is a Real, Not an Imagined Issue

While corporate media and its Big Tech allies insist that voter fraud is a myth, there are recent cases that suggest the known fraud may be the tip of the iceberg. For example, a Mississippi judge found that 78% of mail-in ballots in a June run-off election were counted were fraudulent. Of course, in 2020 itself, Fulton County became ‘ground zero’ for suspect behavior. But even as a judge recently threw out a crucial case that hinged on a Fulton County election audit, it was proven that the county lacked proper documentation for all of its absentee ballots. Election fraud comes in many ways and forms, and American voters need to be well-informed and alert to its potential for disenfranchisement.

Only through thorough forensic election audits in contested elections, such as the one currently being carried out in Texas, the standardized use of paper ballots and photo voter IDs, and the elimination of ‘no excuse’ mass-mailed absentee ballots, can the American people regain their full trust in U.S. elections again. Until that day, both Democrats and Republicans will continue to argue about ‘who actually won?’ after close elections.
