Canadian ‘Freedom Convoy’ Raises $7 Million On New Crowdfunding Platform

That didn’t take long…

Just days after the Canadian Freedom Convoy of truckers protesting in Ottawa and Alberta saw GoFundMe freeze and return the millions raised on the platform to support them, another 7-figure batch of funds has been raised on GiveSendGo, a “Christian” crowdfunding platform. As of Wednesday morning, some US$7.2 million (CAD$9.1 million) has been raised on the platform despite Canadian politicians’ best efforts to try and cut off all financial support for the movement.

The new campaign states that funds raised will help cover the cost of fuel for the truckers protesting across Canada. It will also help them pay for food and shelter and “help ease the pressure of this arduous task.”

GSG will even take care of payments, sending the money raised directly to “our bulk fuel supplier”, according to the organizers of the movement.

“In order for your generous donations to flow smoothly, the good people at GiveSendGo will be sending donations directly to our bulk fuel supplier and are working out the details now which means your hard earned money is going straight to who it was meant for and need not flow through anyone else,” the page description reads.

“Any left over donations will be donated to a credible veterans organization which will be chosen by the donors.”

In a statement issued Monday, GSG said the company had been in contact with campaign organizers and had received “full assurance” that all funds raised will go to providing humanitarian aid and legal support for the truckers and their allies.

The new campaign – launched after GoFundMe tried to steal nearly $10 million raised by the group’s supporters before ultimately deciding to refund the money to donors – states that funds raised will help cover the cost of fuel for the truckers protesting across Canada (which is especially critical as local police in Ottawa and elsewhere have seized fuel paid for by supporters of the truckers) and will also help with food and shelter costs “to help ease the pressures of this arduous task,”

For two weeks now, the truckers and their supporters have gathered in Ottawa and near Coutts, Alberta, to protest draconian vaccine requirements that effectively make it impossible for Canadian truckers to work unless they’re fully vaccinated. Antagonists have accused the truckers of blocking cross-border traffic and blockading the core of Ottawa’s downtown, shuttering businesses, clogging traffic, and generating lawsuit-provoking noise pollution. A judge ruled this week that truckers could be arrested for blowing their horns after 1900 Ottawa time.

Amazingly, the protests have attracted international attention and even copycat protests in Europe and elsewhere.

While information about donors, their location, and their intentions remains limited, Ottawa Police Chief Peter Sloly indicated in a press conference last week that the movement had significant ties to the US. Of course, it doesn’t take a genius to see that President Donald Trump and Fox News host Tucker Carlson have both spoken out in support of the truckers.

“We are now aware of a significant element from the US that have been involved in the funding, the organizing,” he said.

The organizers of the movement have insisted they will keep it up until Canadian politicians abandon the quarantine requirements and other COVID-related restrictions and vaccine requirements that inspired the movement to begin with.  Already, the premier of Saskatchewan has spoken out calling for all COVID restrictions to be dropped.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
