There are many strategies to getting healthy mentally, emotionally, and physically. It is important to have all the right tools and resources available when trying to see what is right for each of our lives. It is also important to know the strategies that are effective and have long term results, backed by a doctor who has researched and implemented the game plan. Moreover, doctors who are published in scientific journals and supported by the American Psychological Association (APA) has even more credibility in their discoveries.

A technique that is showing profound success in reducing the emotional impact of memories and events that create emotional distress is being widely used among individuals and psychologists alike. It is called EFT, otherwise known as “Emotional Freedom Technique.”

What exactly does EFT involve. It sounds kinda of scary, but it really is an alternative means to solely traditional therapy and medication. Simply put, EFT uses Acupressure, with fingertips by tapping 12 Acupressure points on the body. This method is combined with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to address disorders that many people have faced challenges in overcoming. For example, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, various phobias, weight loss, unhealthy relationships, and even pain such as fibromyalgia.

A few years back I was taking a class whereby a student in the class shared a traumatic incident that caused PTSD. The student went to a professional who applied EFT and by the end of the first session, had immediate relief of the distress. The student indicated while the memory of the event still exists, the emotional pain associated with it was not. It was now just like other memories, an event that happened.

On today’s show guest Dr. Dawson Church, who is an award-winning author and whose best-selling book, “The Genie in Your Genes,” has been hailed by reviewers as a breakthrough in our understanding of the link between emotions and genetics. He founded the National Institute for Integrative Healthcare to study and implement promising evidence-based psychological and medical techniques. His groundbreaking research has been published in prestigious scientific journals. He is also the editor of Energy Psychology: Theory, Research, & Treatment, a peer-reviewed professional journal, a blogger for the Huffington Post, and a reviewer for the APA’s Mental Health Mobile Phone Application Review Database. Dr. Church shares what EFT is along with how effective this method is.
