Alex Acosta Resigns… avoiding overshadowing of Epstein controversy
— MSNBC (@MSNBC) July 12, 2019
Labor Secretary Alex Acosta said [today] Friday he will resign due to the controversy over the way he handled a sex crimes case against wealthy businessman Jeffrey Epstein a decade ago when he was U.S. attorney for southern Florida.
Acosta made the announcement while standing next to President Donald Trump outside the White House. Trump said that Acosta had called him Friday morning, and that it had been Acosta’s decision to quit.
“This was him, not me, because I’m with him,” Trump said in a lengthy exchange with the media before departing the White House en route to events in Wisconsin and Ohio. “I said, ‘You don’t have to do this.’”
Acosta said he did not want his involvement in Epstein’s controversy to overshadow the administration’s accomplishments. Acosta will officially resign a week after his announcement; Deputy Labor Secretary Patrick Pizzella will take his place in an acting capacity, according to the President.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
