Iowa Republican state Rep. Bobby Kaufmann, in an appropriately named bill, introduced a proposal to counter the collective temper tantrum by Millennials over the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States.
Looking to address the gridlock created when protesters blocked Interstate 80, Kaufmann came up with an unusual name for his proposal.
“I have named the bill, ‘Suck it up, Buttercup,’” he told ABC affiliate WQAD.
“You’ve got a right to be a brat,” Kaufmann said. “You’ve got a right to protest, that’s constitutionally protected. But you do not have a right to throw a temper tantrum on I-80 and put my constituents’ lives in danger.”
The lawmaker is looking to clarify state law and wants to fine Iowa colleges if they spend tax dollars on so-called “Cry Rooms” for students struggling to accept the election of Trump, WQAD reported.
As for the bill’s name, Kaufmann said it’s appropriate given the nature of the protests.
“People say, ‘Suck it up, Buttercup, that’s kind of over the top,’” he said. “But so are the protests that are happening.”
