Swimming In The Lake Of Life

Swimming In The Lake Of Life

Commentary by: Bill the Butcher

I must’ve told this story a hundred times, but it bears repeating because a majority of readers simply don’t get it. It deals with communication yet there is a deeper meaning that most people miss as the attempt to conform to the New normal of social consciousness imposed by “Woke” advocates sleepwalking through life. And the story goes as follows:

After giving a speech from the south porch of the Capitol at Austin I found myself sitting beneath a spreading oak having a very politically incorrect cigarette when I was greeted by a young lady who asked if we might discuss my talk that day.

Now, this woman was appropriately dressed in jeans, the mandatory blouse, not too revealing, but not what could be called conservative, her hair long and with just a whiff of perfume drifting over me. Bright smile, clear eyes. And she asked if I might explain my speech to her. Well, not so much my words and ideas, but more about my delivery.

I asked which part most interested her, and she said the vernacular I used when speaking from the porch as opposed to what she’d heard me conversing with some of my associates while walking to the bench where she and I presently found ourselves.

To her credit, she paused at that point to allow me to answer, so rare for a Zoomer, and I appreciated that, so I began. First, judging from her attire, I asked if she was in college, and she answered to the affirmative, telling me she was studying law at the University of Texas, which was obvious in that it was right there in the neighborhood, and that gave me a bit of insight on her. Being “UT” it was almost mandatory she be a liberal which practically assured me she was a Democrat. Now I didn’t care about all that, in fact, being a “Boomer” my definition of a liberal girl is one that will do practically anything at least once so you must understand she peaked my interest. The football team at UT is the Texas Longhorns and their battle cry is “Hook ‘em, Horns!” I suppose one could consider the young men at that school being “Horny” and the cheerleaders as being “Hookers,” but that’s for another discussion altogether. Now, where was I?

So, I pulled my mind out of the gutter and addressed her question. My talk that day concerned immigration. Her question was why, when speaking to the crowd, did I use such a different approach from say, when speaking to someone such as her? I told her that I had much respect for her. In spite of our possible differences in ideas that her being a law student told me that she in all probability would be a lawyer and by the time she was fifty or so she may even be a judge. Upon telling her thus, by the way, I noticed that she squirmed a bit.

I said that speaking to her I might point out the issues concerning people wanting to come to America for a better life for them and their children, yet we had to have firm rules to allow good people in and keep bad people out!

Then I asked her to cast her eyes upon my constituents still milling about the grounds. Some even had coonskin caps and all of them had guns. So to them you spit in a styrofoam cup and say, “We gotta do something ‘bout them Meskins!” Same message, different terminology.

She withdrew a bit, but I seen intelligence in her eyes, so rare for a Democrat, and I expounded. We are all human. Well, except for my third ex-wife who I have doubts about, but by and large we all put on our pants one leg at a time if you are wearing pants which is none of my business. We all have the same hopes, dreams, and plans for the future, whatever those plans may be. But basically, they all come down to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Imagine being at a lake. It’s a secluded backwater surrounded by trees and several students are going to swim. They had just “found” themselves there. There was no plan. Ten or fifteen boys and girls standing there, looking at the warm Texas water and they decide a swim just might be the thing. Now no one is wearing a swimsuit. See where we’re going with this? So after a brief discussion it is decided that they should swim Au Naturale.

Naturally there was some disagreement among the students, but majority ruled and most disrobed and jumped into the water. The ones that didn’t swim observed the festivities and stood on the bank holding clothes. Then I looked her dead in the eye and said, “The kids are those of your generation. The lake is the lake of life. They are all at the lake together. Will you swim, or hold clothes?” A wry grin crossed her lips, and her eyes gave me her answer, but I put my finger to my lips, we understood each other and parted friends. Communication had been achieved! From Boomer to Zoomer and I would definitely swim with her.

The Liberty Beacon Project is now expanding at a near exponential rate, and for this we are grateful and excited! But we must also be practical. For 7 years we have not asked for any donations, and have built this project with our own funds as we grew. We are now experiencing ever increasing growing pains due to the large number of websites and projects we represent. So we have just installed donation buttons on our websites and ask that you consider this when you visit them. Nothing is too small. We thank you for all your support and your considerations … (TLB)
